The Department of Financial Aid, Student Employment, and Military Education Benefits at UWM strives to provide effective and reliable service in support of the academic mission of the University. The staff facilitates and supports students and their families in meeting the financial costs of attaining a degree in higher education.
A full-time probationary academic staff Administrative Program Specialist position is available in the Department of Financial Aid, Student Employment, and Military Education Benefits. The individual in this position will serve as the compliance officer for the day-to-day operations for all institutional, state and federal financial aid programs. Assist the Associate Director in the preparation of all required fiscal reports, interpret all federal and state policies that apply to office procedures and conduct data analysis and review to ensure compliance. Monitor and manage the funding levels in all institutional, state, and federal funds. Adjust individual student financial aid awards to account for changes in eligibility.
A Bachelor's degree is required for this position (degree must be granted by the date of hire). Minimum of up to two years related educational administrative experience for the associate level or more than two years related educational administrative experience for the no-prefix level.
Master's degree preferred. The ideal applicant will have strong knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures from both functional and technical view points; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and experience with word processing software and database applications. The ability to take the initiative and work independently, as well as work in a team environment, and follow through to complete projects in a timely manner. Demonstrated experience with PeopleSoft or a similar integrated data management system is ideal. Must be comfortable working with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
