EDUCATION: Licensed or eligible for licensure as a professional registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin required at the time of application and maintained during incumbency. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver’s license required at time of application and maintained during incumbency. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider certification required at time of application and maintained during incumbency. Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician Basic license preferred. Possession of a bachelor’s degree required from an approved college or university in health care or in education preferred. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification preferred.

Note: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) instructor certification, Advanced Life Support (ACLS) instructor certification and licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic required within six (6) months of appointment and maintained during incumbency.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience as an Emergency Medical Services pre-hospital emergency care provider required. Experience as a registered nurse in an emergency department or intensive care unit preferred. Experience as a flight nurse and training of Emergency Medical Staff is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of theory and principles of paramedic practice; knowledge of nursing and health care; knowledge of pre-hospital emergency care; knowledge of the theory and principles of education; knowledge of Emergency Medical Systems; skill in applying the concepts of pre-hospital emergency care and nursing practices; skill in the care of patients; personal computer skills; ability to evaluate students; ability to use computers, audiovisual aids and office equipment to produce curriculum for Emergency Medical Technicians; ability to develop/ design test material and courses; ability to evaluate quality of care provided by paramedics; ability to identify and resolve systemic problems; ability to apply concepts of pre-hospital emergency, paramedic and nursing studies to research projects and tasks; ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds up and down two (2) flights of stairs; ability to enter and exit an ambulance, public or private residence or any scene of a medical emergency; ability to provide own transportation to clinical and field sites; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with administration, students, staff, patients, and others.

DUTIES: Under general supervision, to prepare, develop and present Emergency Medical Services curriculum; to advise, manage and supervise students enrolled in EMS related courses during field training; to assist in the development of new courses in Emergency Medical Services; to develop and administer student examinations; to oversee and evaluate student training in field and clinical settings; to provide State mandated continuing education to licensed paramedics; to perform quality assurance of field operations of the Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services system; to assist in other projects and tasks assigned; to participate in the research and evaluation of the Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services system; to maintain records and prepare reports; to travel to clinical and field sites and Milwaukee County Fire departments; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.
