Position Location: Downtown Milwaukee, WI or Franklin, WI
Position Hours: Vary - will be required to be flexible on occasion.
BASIC FUNCTION: Work a rotational post schedule whereby delivering quality security and safety related services to all customers, both internal and external. This position proactively monitors the electronic building security, surveillance, and life safety systems for the entire downtown campus supporting the security team’s mission of protecting the assets of Northwestern Mutual. Evaluates the equipment’s performance for potential malfunction and reports to appropriate contact. Proactively monitors all closed circuit video cameras located throughout the complex, both inside and outside, to recognize potential problems, assess each situation, and determine the appropriate action to be taken. Coordinates appropriate efforts during building emergencies, and notifies appropriate parties as needed. Operates and monitors the Building Automation System. Investigates and evaluates various facility concerns and complaints, and takes corrective measures or contacts the proper person to resolve the problem. Patrols building and grounds to ensure the safety and security of all Northwestern Mutual employees, contractors, and visitors in addition to the physical assets of the company. Responds to calls for service in a timely manner, investigates unusual incidents often times conducting field interviews of victims and witnesses to later write narrative summaries of incidents. Ensures proper facility access control by processing all individuals and packages at facility lobbies and entry points. Participates as member of Emergency Response Team and responds to all life safety emergency calls. Takes appropriate measures in cases of rule infractions, e.g., loitering, smoking, or removal of Northwestern Mutual property. Other work and additional duties as assigned by business need.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must successfully complete and pass any required testing. Previous related security experience in a corporate setting required. Completion of courses in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, security operations, business administration, or any coursework in a related field preferred. Recent experience in performing the various functions of Security/Life Safety computer systems and equipment required. Experience and/or education in related or similar systems will be considered. Working knowledge of basic software (e.g., MS Word, Excel) required. A high degree of self-motivation with proven initiative in accepting personal responsibility for work results and contributing cooperatively to team goals while maintaining confidentiality is needed. Must be highly dependable with the ability to remain alert and attentive at all times, and to react calmly in emergency situations. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and have a proven track record of effective independent decision making. Must be flexible. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills are required along with the ability to synthesize internal and external information to make reasonable decisions in a variety of security related situations. Endurance for standing, walking, and climbing stairs for extensive periods of time required. Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds without assistance and push/pull a minimum of 40 pounds without assistance. Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully with others and enforce company and security policies. Effective communication and documentation skills are necessary. Must be able to function as an emergency response team member and be willing to complete First Aid and CPR certification within six months of placement; continuing related training is necessary. This position may include hours on some of the company recognized holidays. In addition, this job is part of a group of jobs considered "essential services." All essential services employees are expected to make every reasonable effort possible to report for work or remain working their shift, even during inclement weather conditions and emergency situations. |
