NURSING ADMINISTRATOR (PSYCHIATRY)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university in Nursing is required. Possession of licensure from the State of Wisconsin as a professional Nurse is required at time of application and maintained during incumbency. Possession of a master’s degree from an approved college or university in Nursing is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of nursing experience, three (3) of which must have been in a supervisory, teaching, or administrative capacity. Experience in psychiatric nursing, geropsychiatry and/ or with the developmentally disabled or nursing home care populations is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILTIES: Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing service management; nursing skills; supervisory skills; organizational skills; report writing skills; public speaking skills; ability to work independently; conflict resolution skills; ability to work in a fast paced complex hospital environment; ability to work under pressure; ability to interpret Behavioral Health Division policies and procedures; ability to prioritize; ability to analyze budget data; ability to remain mentally alert; ability to walk long distances; ability to resolve conflicts with staff; ability to be drug free; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with staff and others.

DUTIES: Under general supervision; to ensure the quality of nursing care throughout the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division (MCBHD); to be responsible for Administrative Resources (RN 3 MH) , Nursing care in Long Term Care RehabCentral and Hilltop Programs and Pool RN and Pool LPN/NA staff; to forecast the direction for nursing standards, practices, and activities at MCBHD; to ensure compliance with all nursing standards, practices, and activities; to plan, direct and coordinate systems of nursing care; to develop and/or revise policies and procedures; to establish goals for the nursing department and clinical programs; to design and implement quality improvement systems to evaluate care; to assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of nursing staff; to design and implement programs for staff development; to coordinate and provide resources/ mediation between nursing areas and other departments of the organization; to design strategies for change and implementation consistent with the vision and mission of the MCBHD; to facilitate the planning, development, and launching of new nursing programs and initiatives; to assist with providing direction for management of fiscal resources; to coach staff to foster growth; to develop linkages with the community in order to provide comprehensive educational programming and to improve patient care along the continuum; to monitor staff performance and take corrective and disciplinary action as needed; to interpret labor contract; to ensure compliance with work rules; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.
