EDUCATION:
Licensed or eligible for licensure and/or practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber in the State of Wisconsin required. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, Registered Nurse Anesthetist or Clinical Nurse Specialist by a national credentialing organization/association, approved by the Board of Nursing, is required. For Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers located in the Office of the Sheriff: Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or by the National Certification Corporation in Obstetric/Gynecologic or Women’s Health as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Note: Must be able to obtain independent nurse prescriber status in one year; independent nurse prescriber status preferred.


EXPERIENCE:
Applicant's quality and quantity of experience AFTER obtaining certification will be carefully considered. Areas to be considered will be experienced in: directing and coordinating medical care to patients; performing/documenting physical examinations, obtaining/documenting patient health history, identifying and assessing patients' clinical problems and health care needs, formulating a nursing diagnosis, providing health education to patients and their families and performing other duties of a nurse practitioner in a certification/specialty area.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the advanced principles and practices of nursing and patient care; skill in patient assessment, nursing diagnosis and planning and evaluation; skill in preparing technical and special reports; ability to use sound judgment in making independent decisions; ability to follow and give instructions; ability to serve as a role model and preceptor for nursing and other health care students; ability to collaborate with physicians and other health professionals regarding patient care; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with patients, physicians, health professionals and others.


DUTIES:
Under general direction and medical staff policies and procedures, to direct and coordinate medical care to assigned patients; to perform and document physical examinations; to obtain and document patient health history; to order, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests; to identify and assess patients' clinical problems and health care needs; to formulate a nursing diagnosis and health care plan based on the patient's condition; to submit health care plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by the physician; to prescribe and administer medications, treatments and immunizations as necessary according to policies and procedures; to provide health education to patients and their families; to participate in quality assurance and staff development activities; to assist in formulating policies and procedures; to participate in research activities and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.


THE EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residence within the confines of the State of Wisconsin within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.
