Job Description	Imagine yourself... Collaborating with patient financial services, clinical areas, registration / scheduling and health information leadership to ensure timely, compliant and efficient processes exist to process records through the coding/abstracting functions. Coordinating and performing internal / external audits to ensure coding quality and compliance. Researching and communicating coding changes to staff, physicians, and patient care staff. In collaboration with the director, developing, updating and implementing department policies and procedures. Educating staff, leadership and physicians on coding related policies, procedures and practices. Communicating with and acting as a resource for physicians, leadership, and staff regarding coding issues. Initiating, developing, and maintaining necessary working relationships with third party entities to ensure the prompt and accurate processing of claims. Communicating with third party payers to defend current coding practices in person and/or in writing. Identifying and problem solving issues; identifying "patterns" of problems. Collaborating with physician billing areas of charge entry and follow-up on a regular basis in regard to these issues. Performing human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, pay adjustments, resolution of employee concerns, disciplinary counseling, terminations, and employee morale. Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Aurora Health Care Code of Excellence and for ensuring personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws that affect Aurora’s business.
General Qualifications	Current certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) granted by the American Academy of Professional Coders. Knowledge of health information management, equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a regionally accredited bachelor’s degree program. Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform this job are typically acquired through a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in coding that includes experiences in ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems and physician billing in an outpatient clinic environment. Exceptional knowledge of medical terminology; ICD9, CPT-4 and HCPCS. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy. Knowledgeable of Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance coding guidelines. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite or similar applications, electronic mail and electronic coding systems. Excellent organization and prioritization skills, ability to manage multiple priorities in a stressful, fast-paced work environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership skills including team building, project management and effective decision making. Demonstrated analytical aptitude, with a high attention to detail.
