Position Summary:

Coordinates and executes shipping and mail services for a unit including inventory management and distribution, mail and package receipt and delivery, and shipping and/or delivery of packages.

Must pass a pre-work screen to ensure the ability to perform essential physical functions of the position. Must have a valid WI driver's license or ability to obtain one and be authorized to drive a University vehicle upon appointment. This position will require a criminal background investigation.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipments. Responsible for inventory management and distribution, mail and package receipt and delivery, and shipping and/or delivery of packages and freight
  • Maintains records and manifests regarding incoming packages, location, and date of delivery
  • Determines policies and procedures related to mail and package receipt and delivery
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items outgoing or incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, packing slips, address labels and other records
  • Utilizes standard machinery and equipment to load, unload, and transport freight and materials
  • Troubleshoots shipping issues and customer complaints
Qualifications
Required:
  • H.S. Diploma

  • Demonstrated experience operating various computer systems and software.

  • Must have or be able to obtain forklift operator certification within six months of appointment.

  • Must have the ability to perform physical labor including heavy lifting, bending, stooping, and other motions with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must have the ability to manually lift up to 70lbs with assistance (e.g. box of paper, bag of salt, etc.), repeatedly, and to transport up to 150lbs via a handcart with or without reasonable accommodation(s).

  • Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.

  • Must have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred:
  • At least one (1) year of customer service experience.

  • Previous experience with shipping practices and methods to include common carriers, rates, classifications, hazardous material restrictions, and other Federal transportation regulations.

  • Work experience with safety guidelines related to the receipt, warehousing, and delivery of items.

  • Work experience operating delivery trucks and manual and power material handling (hand truck, hand cart, power pallet-jack, etc.)
