We are currently looking for an analytical and results driven individual to provide outstanding underwriting leadership to a team of life underwriters in our Life and Annuity business unit at our Stevens Point, WI office.

What You'll Do

As an Underwriting Manager in our Life and Annuities business unit, you will provide underwriting leadership and direction involving individual life and annuity products through management of broad underwriting policies that support corporate and business unit objectives. You will develop, interpret, implement, and evaluate underwriting and form collection techniques, standards, procedures, and policies that promote growth and profitability for life and annuity product.

You will also:

  • Provide underwriting expertise and authorization on files that exceed normal underwriting policies.

  • Provide oversight to all aspects of policy issuance including the assembly of contracts.

  • Work effectively with Sentry Legal, Compliance, Sales, Marketing, and Reinsurance departments and stay abreast of regulatory changes that may impact life applications forms as well as underwriting and policy issuance.

  • Uphold privacy and confidentiality requirements as required by rules and legislation.

  • Administer human resource-related activities. Select, develop, motivate, and recognize staff.

What it Takes

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of related work experience, prior management experience preferred

  • Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) preferred

  • Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) preferred

  • Knowledge and experience at a proficient level to successfully handle the underwriting decisions made by this position

  • Knowledge of MIB rule, regulations and procedures, confidentiality laws, and HIPPAA regulations regarding the release of information

  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, communication and human relations skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial underwriting as it pertains to basic personal and business cases and specific product line insurance concepts and medical terminology.

  • Demonstrated problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
