Position Description:

The Kelliher Lab studies interactions between bacterial pathogens and their host cells. We use a variety of cutting-edge microbiological, genetic, biochemical, and cellular techniques in the laboratory. As a group, we are committed to fostering a rigorous, creative, and supportive environment comprised of kind and inclusive scientists.

We are seeking a research technologist to assist with experiments and lab management tasks. The ideal candidate will be able to commit to at least two years in the position. This position allows for development of increasingly independent projects following demonstration of proficiency and based on lab needs, per discretion of the PI.

Primary Functions

* Carry out experimental designs and perform routine experiments that include molecular and cellular biology techniques.

* Record and compile accurate lab records and communicate summaries of experimental results in written and oral formats.

* Assist with the evaluation, interpretation, and assessment of experimental data and quality control of assays.

* Participate in meetings with principal investigator, research staff, collaborators, and others, and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.

* Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.

* Assist in preparing stock solutions and media, and maintain cells by various culturing techniques.

* Order and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies; work with vendors as needed to address equipment, reagent, or supply issues.

* Organize and maintain the mouse colony.

* Serve as lab safety officer and representative to institutional safety and animal oversight groups; interface with veterinary staff.

* Support additional lab functions and activities as assigned

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.


Preferred Schedule:
M-F 8-5


Position Requirements:

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: No experience required

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, or similar

Preferred Experience: 1+ year of laboratory research in microbiology or similar field
