PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

Funding available through 09/30/2024; continuance beyond that date is subject to the department's operational needs as outlined in APPM Policy #3200, Employee Classification.

The University of New Mexico has established branch colleges to serve the citizens of New Mexico and to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post-secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering community education programs, career education including certificate and associate degree programs, and transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities.

The University of New Mexico Gallup Branch is seeking a Sr Program Manager for the Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institute grant to grow, manage, and plan for initiatives in collaboration with the UNM-Gallup Chancellor. The selected candidate will be responsible for a major grant-funded program addressing the support needs for Native American students. The Sr Program Manager will provide advanced leadership and expertise in the area of Native American student support, as well as day-to-day administration of the program's activities and staff members.

The Sr Program Manager of the Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institute grant will be responsible for:

  • Planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating university project(s) and/or program(s).
  • Designing and implementing systems to assess, collect, maintain, and analyze data; generating interim progress reports, final reports, evaluation, and other information related to project(s) or program(s).
  • Establishing and implementing short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitoring and evaluating operational effectiveness and effect changes required for improvement.
  • Directing, managing, and overseeing the daily administrative components of program(s)/project(s).
  • Designing, establishing, and maintaining staffing and an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the program/project function; recruits, employs, trains, supervises, and evaluates program/project staff.
  • Developing and implementing systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the operating unit.
  • Performing community liaison and outreach activities for program(s)/project(s).
  • May engage in contract negotiations and/or perform research; may produce and/or market project(s) and/or product(s).
  • Developing and managing annual budgets for the program and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  • Planning and developing strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the project; may prepare contract and/or grant proposals.
  • Recommending, participating in the development of, and establishing program policies and procedures; may serve on department/division/university planning and policy-making committees.
  • May represent the university to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, funding agencies, national organizations, and the general public.
  • Providing expertise in a specialized field and often participates in local or statewide task forces.
  • May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Other duties as assigned by the UNM-Gallup Chancellor.

Conditions of Employment Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; two of which are management level experience.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in directly related field such as; Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Work, Counseling, Education.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with traditionally underrepresented and diverse populations.
  • At least 2 years of grant experience as a Program Director/Principal Investigator.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a post-secondary education student services and support setting.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
