The Stoughton Area School District is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Assistant Principal for River Bluff Middle School.


Job Summary:

Provide leadership in the coordination, supervision, and continuous improvement of the educational programs at the Middle School. The administrator works proactively and responsively to support and maintain a safe, supportive climate, focusing on a high level of learning for each child. Decisions our leader makes each day will be grounded in an equity imperative, which means that each child receives what they need to develop to their full academic and social potential. She/He will help to bring our staff members to their highest levels of contribution, and will offer clear, descriptive and ongoing feedback to advance their practice, while providing the environment necessary for all students to achieve their full potential.


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

  2. Establishes and maintains high standards for student performance and staff performance.

  3. Administers the school in accordance with the policies and vision of the Board of Education.

  4. Supervises and evaluates assigned instructional and support staff in accordance with Board Policies, the District handbook and District goals.

  5. Participates in the reviews analysis and development annual site improvement goals focusing on improving student achievement.

  6. Listens and speaks effectively with the ability to interact positively with students, staff, and the community. Models collaboration and utilizes parent, student, and community feedback in the improvement of educational programs.

  7. Facilitates meetings with staff, students and parents as needed.

  8. Utilizes educational research and district data to guide decision-making.

  9. Works with the Director of Human Resources in the hiring and assigning of staff according to qualifications and certification.

  10. Participates in District and school improvement committees as assigned and implements and monitors strategic planning goals.

  11. Works with the district Athletic & Activities Director to oversee athletics and activities at the middle school level.

  12. Responsible for the procedures outlined in the District's Emergency Plan Manual to use in a wide range of emergency crisis possibilities.

  13. Develops a consistent approach to student attendance, discipline and school climate.

  14. Assumes responsibility for taking reasonable precautions to safeguard the health and safety of students and staff.

  15. Assists in the coordination of staffing, budget, master schedule, registration, and curriculum proposals.

  16. Works with the Director of Human Resources to communicate, interpret and enforce staff contracts, the district handbook, policies and procedures.

  17. Works with the Director of Student Services, coordinates special education services to provide the least restrictive environment for children with special needs.

  18. Completes required state, District and building reports.

  19. Active involvement in the coordination of maintenance and supervision of the physical plant and grounds.

  20. Participates in school board meetings, study committees, administrative council and building meetings as appropriate.

  21. Participates in professional organizations and attends professional meetings and seminars.

  22. Assumes the Principal's role in the absence of the Principal.

  23. The principal acts with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.

  24. Complies with the attendance policies of the District.


Marginal Job Functions:

  1. All other duties assigned which relate to the functions of the job.


Job Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of three years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience.

  2. Possess current license or qualified for a principal's license through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

  3. Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license.

  4. Possess and keep current or acquire certification as a TeachScape user for educator evaluation.


Requirements of Essential Functions:

Occasional (1-33%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting, reaching, and stair climbing are required to perform the essential job functions.


Lifting: 0-10 pounds constantly (66-100%)
