Job Description

Youth Development Leader

Leaders are responsible for planning and leading a successful and engaging program at the site assigned.

Compensation: $15-$17 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Dates/Times:
  • 7:30 am - 5:30 pm or 12:00 - 5:00 pm, depending on site
  • Monday - Friday, June -August
    • Last day of school is typically second week of June.
    • NOTE: There may be an opportunity to work for the Summer Playgrounds program upon conclusion of the Afterschool Program

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in pre-season staff orientation/training program.
  2. Organize and lead playground activities are park site. Leaders are expected to be actively involved with all participants that wish to participate.
  3. Develop and implement curriculum that provides fun, creative and safe programs for participants.
  4. Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
  5. Enforce rules and regulations of program.
  6. Leaders are responsible for the program facility and all equipment i.e., balls, jump ropes, bats, etc. belonging to WPRF.
  7. Implement special events and themed activities at playground site.
  8. Complete all reports in a timely fashion, i.e., daily attendance, permission slips, requisition forms and time cards.
  9. Provide first aid as needed and complete appropriate accident report.
  10. Emphasize and model good sportsmanship in sports, games, and other activities.
  11. Attend weekly staff meetings.
  12. Dress appropriately when on duty. All personnel are required to wear playground staff shirt while working.
  13. Supervise Leaders in Training and implement Leaders in Training Program.
  14. Follow all City of Waukesha employee work rules.
  15. Return all keys, paperwork and required equipment at the end of the program.
  16. Maintain exceptional communication with WPRF, co-leaders, Playground Coordinators, Recreation Programmer, and parents.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be a high school graduate
  2. Prior experience working with children desirable
  3. Proficiency in the following skills: Leadership, Decision-Making, Planning, Organization and Communication
  4. Ability to lead, plan, organize and implement program activities.
  5. Desire to work in a team environment with the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  6. Enthusiastic personality and willingness to adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
