JOB SUMMARY

The shipper role is an assembly role. It is the last to touch the product before it is sent out of our facility. This role involves dismantling each unit and getting it prepared for shipment.

Welder: Must develop skills through training and demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: transformer disassembly, preparing units for painting, welding components required for shipment, preparing units to load, loading units to rail cars or trucks, and shipping parts.

Painter: Must develop skills through training and demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: transformer disassembly, preparing units for painting, painting, preparing units to load, loading units to rail cars or trucks, and shipping parts.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive assignments and instructions from supervisor - both verbal and written. Follows drawings, Bill of Materials, and other established manufacturing procedures. Coordinate and communicate with supervision and team leads.
  • Dismantle transformer for shipment (arrestors, radiators, bushings, conservators, etc.)
  • Drain oil, vacuum fill with dry air, nitrogen or oil as required and pressure test transformer tank.
  • Package components and transformer parts for shipment
  • Prepare railroad car and/or truck for loading transformer unit and components
  • Clean tank prior to final paint
  • Load transformer unit to railcars or trucks
  • Prepare shipping materials as required (blocking, tie rods, etc.)
  • Move transformer unit from test floor to and within shipping area
  • Move and switch rail cars
  • Load and unload units as required from railcars and trucks
  • Perform minor miscellaneous welding and burning functions as required (welder only)
  • Apply paint primer and finish coats to transformers and parts per B.O.M. and instructions (painter only)
  • Clean, operate and maintain paint systems equipment (painter only)
  • Maintain paint and solvent waste streams per procedures (painter only)
  • Assure proper marking, storage and transport of hazardous wastes
  • Have the ability to look up non-conformances
  • Write work orders for the repair of tooling and equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and policies of the company
  • Keep tools, equipment and work area neat and orderly
  • Assist in training of new operators.
  • May work in Med Power, Large Power or EHV product lines
  • Perform work in other departments as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Utilize portable scaffold and steps, ladders, radial and band saw, vacuum cleaner, hydraulic jacks, threading machine, hi-press crimpers, grinder, stud gun, hand drill, pneumatic wrenches, mallet, sledge, pry bars, blocks, wire stripper, hand crimper, overhead jib crane, chains, slings, vacuum pumps, forklift truck, air bearings
  • Able to operate various machines including wire crimpers, heat guns, air pallets, punches, sanders, band saws, grinders, stud welders, pipe threaders, shears, drilles, welders, plasma cutters, and other related equipment.
  • Materials used in this position include tanks, covers, current transformers, tap changers, gear assemblies, oil gauges, pressure gauge, cabinets, housings, bushings, operating mechanisms, finished transformers, flanges, lightning arrestors, wood, steel rod, nitrogen and others. Breaker stands, breaker poles, breaker C.T.'s, galvanized steel beams, & SF6 gas
  • Often works at heights up to 15' or more.
  • Work varies from working at ground level to working in, on top of, and around the sides of the transformer tank.
  • Operations require mental and visual concentration to ensure compliance with engineering and quality specifications
  • Position requires hand and eye coordination to make adequate welds meeting various welding specifications for in plant certification, if welding
  • Must have the ability to access and work in confined spaces, which includes 18-24" manhole access.

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to occasionally sit, walk. Climb, balance, push, pull, carry, work below waist level and foot use.

Shop-floor located on large manufacturing plant.
