Position Title: Planner & Scheduler- FBS Defense

Location of Position: United States -- Wisconsin -- Sturgeon Bay

Position Type: Full-Time; Permanent; Exempt

Reports To: Planning Manager - FBS Defense Area

Position Summary: This position is responsible for suppling information and work orders to the Production Departments that support current and proposed programs (LCS, MMSC, FFG(X)) at our 63-acre facility. Significant heavy manufacturing takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront. The successful candidate will support the 100+ working men and women on our waterfront by developing and maintaining work orders that describes work in process; issuing and maintaining steel inventory; requisitioning outfitting related materials and equipment; and assisting in developing and maintaining short range schedules.

Detailed Description:

  • Identify work order requirements using IMS, Baan, and shop floor input, monitor work order completion in Planning, and expedite as necessary.
  • Initiate, prep, validate and release work orders, ensure their completeness and deliver to manufacturing supervision, as per the production schedule.
  • Aid in development and implementation of part routing system.
  • Order and status material as necessary to meet work order needs. Proactively identify and resolve current and future shortages through departmental collaboration.
  • Work with manufacturing management, trades and industrial engineers to determine, document, implement, and standardize best practices by work center, and to improve process performance.
  • Aid in the development of outfitting work orders.
  • Aid in generating estimates by utilizing past data and established metrics.
  • Responsible for tracking daily material receipts and material issue for assigned work orders.
  • Assist in resolving physical inventory count versus database inventory.
  • Primary liaison between lofting, engineering and production.
  • Assist fabrication personnel in interpretation of drawings and work orders.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of low level schedules based on construction milestones.
  • Collaborate with the fabrication shop, Engineering and Facilities to develop high level section plans for the fabrication shop.
  • Generate, communicate and drive project schedules.
  • Report on progress and related metrics as established.
  • Develop, update, and maintain assigned project schedules, including but not limited to BLDG 420 (FAB Work Center) and BLDG 411 (1st Stage of Construction)
  • Participate in the configuration, data collection, analyzing, and reporting of performance metric related data within the assigned project.
  • Responsible for standardization and implementation of schedules and performance metric data.
  • Resource planning, reservations, and tracking of actual usage required to adhere to developed schedules.
  • Special assignments to assist in the overall advancement of the department and company.

  • Assist with integration of the project schedule yard wide with each department including Engineering and Procurement.
  • Develop and maintain medium and long-range production resource plans.
  • Maintain a commitment to and promote the Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety Policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in administration, management control and/or accounting of technical services
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in successful task leadership or supervisory role, demonstrating strong organizational and task leadership skills
  • Must be able to read and interpret ship blueprints. Special emphasis on structural blueprint along with knowledge of mechanical and piping
  • Must be proficient in working with AutoCAD
  • Must have knowledge and skills in computer software programs, including Microsoft word and excel systems

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and network scheduling software.
  • Experience in a complex multi-product, built to order production environment.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding workflow, material processing, basic shipbuilding knowledge and production processes.
  • Working knowledge of EVM
