What you will do:

Johnson Controls is seeking a hands-on Pressure Vessel Engineer to join our Special Hazards Fire Suppression Team at our R&D facility in Marinette, WI. Our Pressure Vessel Engineer serves as the department's subject matter expert (SME) for pressure vessels. Responsibilities include development of pressure vessel calculations, concept generation, detailed design, prototyping, and design verification to meet internal and external customer specifications; conducting detailed reviews of design specifications, agency codes and directives to gain and maintain 3rd party approvals; and support Manufacturing in the fabrication of pressure vessels. This position will interface with internal functional departments and external resources globally.

This is a mostly on-site position (not remote) and is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

How you will do it:

  • Develop detailed pressure vessel calculations using applicable design codes/standards and software

  • Advise research and development personnel on code/directive updates which affect current pressure vessels

  • Analyze high level market requirements to establish design direction.

  • Prepare design concept diagrams, detailed drawings, and specifications.

  • Analyze designs for feasibility, cost optimization, vibration tolerance and mechanical stress

  • Maintains a working knowledge of general industry and specific agency approval requirements, to ensure compliance is maintained in designs.

  • Supports Manufacturing to maintain compliance with domestic and global codes and directives such as ASME, DOT, PED and TPED.

  • Supports both Manufacturing and R&D Engineering Departments as needed on quality audits

  • Maintain a working knowledge of manufacturing methods and design for manufacturing efficiency

  • Maintain knowledge of industry technology trends.

  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and test standards.

  • Prepare and present reports and presentations.

  • Work with a team of passionate engineers, program managers, product line managers and other professionals to create world class life safety products.

What we look for:

Required

  • Working knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII Div. 1, U.S. Department of Transportation Regulations, European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and other pressure vessel codes.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university

  • 6+ years of experience in pressure vessel design, mechanical engineering, mechanical product development, fire protection engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Professional Engineering License a plus

  • Knowledge of weld symbols and welding terms

  • Familiarity with a structured product development process

  • Able to apply engineering principles and mathematics to project work

  • Demonstrated team leadership skills for broadly scoped/cross functional/large projects

  • Self-motivated and driven. Able to complete work on time and at high quality levels.

  • Able to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Able to convey detailed technical information.

  • High attention to detail and solid organizational skills.
