Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team asClaims ExaminerforSupplemental Health!

About the role

In this role, you will primarily make claim decisions for our critical illness, scheduled or group accident and hospital indemnity supplemental health products and may also work with our limited benefit medical (LBM), and/or minimum essential coverage (MEC) products.

What you'll do in this role

  • Make timely, accurate, and customer-focused claim decisions
  • Reach out to internal and external sources to gather relevant medical, financial, legal, and/or general data, as needed on a claim-by-claim basis
  • Compare information received to the applicable contract and procedural documents and render the claim decision as quickly as possible
  • Engage peers and management as appropriate
  • Document the claim systems in an accurate and comprehensive manner
  • Prepare and disseminate written and verbal communication to internal/external contacts as needed
  • Remain in compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards
  • Demonstrate proficiency in supplemental health products and claim administration techniques
  • Quickly resolve issues or concerns with payments, voids, refunds, and re-pricing issues
  • Work as a team to support one another through flexibility, collaboration, creating a positive work environment, maintaining professionalism and integrity, and actively taking steps to foster high morale, while demonstrating a dedication to excellence
  • Other special projects or tasks as assigned

Compensation

Hourly Salary Range: $21.00- $35.19 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who you are

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years related work experience required working with group medical, Hospital Indemnity, and other voluntary health insurance products.
  • 2+ years' experience adjudicating Critical Illness and/or accident claims required
  • Proven experience reading and interpreting insurance/legal contracts a plus
  • Solid understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite of applications, especially Access, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to showcase genuine care and empathy
  • Adept math skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable, organized, and flexible
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to handle multiple projects and prioritize workflow
