The NMC Technician contributes to overall Nsight customer satisfaction by ensuring network reliability and a consistent customer experience. The After Hours Network Center Technician proactively monitors, interprets, analyzes and diagnoses element outputs to determine the end-to-end status of the network and its various components. Manages and coordinates network restoration activity, communicates with vendors, customer care, field resources, engineering and others to restore or prevent future outages. Performs technical procedures on network elements as requested.

Responsibilities & Duties:

1. Takes ownership of network problems. Uses remote test tools, performance monitoring statistics and alarm conditions to locate faults and ensure end-to-end service continuity prior to closure of trouble ticket. Network elements include IP routers, Ethernet, IT infrastructure, Cell site infrastructure, T-1, Sonet, SS7, fiber/microwave, DSL network elements, switches, et al.

a. Monitors alarms and switch messages and takes appropriate remedial response. Confirms outstanding alarms with switch and field technical personnel.

b. Receives problem reports from many Nsight personnel. Performs initial investigative research in accordance with prescribed procedures. Determines customer impact of the issue and follows issue to resolution.

c. Provides dispatch-type services to Nsight Technical Services personnel. Follows procedures for handling specific network faults.

d. Communicates status of technical problems to all appropriate Nsight personnel. Confirms and communicates resolution.

2. Remotely perform upgrades to new and/or existing cell site locations, including assisting field technicians with installation of new patch and release software.

a. Interface with the equipment vendor technical support organization, assist in patch and load coordination, as requested.

b. Work with other carriers to test and turn-up T-1 and other telephony circuits, as needed.

c. Perform database changes to switch and other peripheral telecommunications equipment i.e. translations, cell site databases and SS7 tables.

3. Maintain detailed records

a. Use computer skills to enter and/or edit online network data parameters, cell site data parameters and tables in the Cellcom switch map platform.

b. Analyze reports to determine if corrective actions are necessary; perform routine backups of databases and logs.

c. Create various network reports for engineering and set up studies for occurrences of extraneous conditions.

4. Additional responsibilities

a. Support FCC reporting requirements; maintain mandated tower light logs.

b. Based on experience level, may be required to train and coach new, inexperienced technicians in after-hours operation.

c. Understand and uphold all safety standards pertaining to network operations.

d. Perform other related duties as requested or required.

  • An extra $3.00/hour for the 7 pm to 7 am shift
  • An extra $2.00/hour for the 7 am to 7 pm shift on weekends

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience in Telecommunications or Computer Science required.
  • Working knowledge of data communications, IP, T-1 communications equipment, systems and test equipment, telephony and RF experience preferred.
  • Must have two years of telephony and/or computer hardware/software troubleshooting.
