Job Description


Job Title: HVAC Field Engineer                                        Department: Engineering
FLSA Status: Exempt                                                Reports To: Engineering Manager

Summary
The HVAC/R Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in meeting our policy of supporting the continued success of our customers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensures that large, new HVAC/R system designs and/or overhaul of existing HVAC/R system designs, and the associated construction processes satisfy requirements and are provided, reviewed, approved and managed for change in a manner that supports the ship building program objectives.
  • Provides the basis for satisfactory acceptance of the HVAC/R systems through production, test and delivery.
  • Ensures requirements are fulfilled and support given to permit the efficient and effective build of the HVAC/R systems in the ships.
  • Planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the support staff and subcontractors for the project.
  • Providing training to all parties involved regarding government and regulatory requirements, related guidelines, rules, and regulations.
  • Specific skills may vary based on assigned programs.
  • Reviewing and interpreting system specifications and data.
  • Developing and providing written information including estimates, proposals, technical data, procedures, and tests.
  • Acting as a communication interface with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, management, and all internal company departments.
  • Managing the project from start-up to closeout
  • Managing sub-contractors including schedules, contracts, and scope of work.
  • Administration of system drawings and diagrams.
  • Research, analyze, design, implement and troubleshoot new materials, construction methods, systems and components.
  • Oversees shipboard installation, commissioning, and turnover of HVAC/R systems.
Required education and experience (minimum requirements):
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or HVAC/R Engineering with 1-5 years’ experience in marine HVAC/R design or production or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge in a marine HVAC/R systems design and production environment or trade experience/responsibility for design and construction of large, complex land based HVAC/R systems.
  • Skill in calculation and designing of HVAC/R systems.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory body rules (USCG, ABS, SOLAS).
  • Experience with HVAC/R installation and inspection on-board ships.
  • Excellent electronic (email) communications skills.
  • Basic understanding of AutoCad skills.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to gain U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Undergo and pass a drug screening and background check.

Desired Experience:
  • Involvement in design and installation of marine or offshore HVAC/R installations.
  • HVAC/R system commissioning experience.
  • Experience with HVAC/R energy saving practices.
  • Working knowledge of shipboard systems and equipment.
  • Familiarity with ship design and terminology.
