J.F. Cook Co., Inc. was founded in 1947 by John F. Cook. John previously worked for Barcol Overdoors in Rockford, Illinois and came to Milwaukee to open a new Barcol distributorship. Through John’s efforts and engineering talents, J.F. Cook Co., Inc. became a leader in the Milwaukee market, known for its quality products, electrical engineering capabilities and ability to solve problematic installations.

The Company continued to grow and the window division was added in the late 1950’s with representation of DeVAC aluminum windows. In 1972, John brought Dick Havener, Rod Moon and John Zaleski from his sales department into the management of the firm as he prepared to turn over ownership to this team. John F. Cook retired in 1976.

In 1977 the Company relocated from Milwaukee to a new 10,000 square foot facility in Oak Creek. Growth and expansion continued as new window and door product lines were added.

J.F. Cook Co. acquired Barcol Overdoor in 1985 and also became southeastern Wisconsin’s authorized distributor for Overhead Door Corporation, the world’s largest door manufacturer. This is when Overhead Door Company of Greater Milwaukee was added as a division to J.F. Cook Co., Inc. to represent the full line of Overhead Door Corporation’s commercial and residential products.

In 1986, Cheryl F. Honeck, Jule J. Belott, and Thomas J. Druml partnered to purchase J.F. Cook Co., Inc. Growth continued as new “doors” opened and “windows” of opportunity arose and the company became Wisconsin’s largest Traco window distributor in the 1990’s.

The Company outgrew its existing office and warehouse and built a new 25,000 square foot facility in 2001. This is the current facility and is located on 10th and Drexel in Oak Creek; Boasting a grand showroom and large warehouse.

In 2010 Benjamin Y. Engel joined with Generation Growth Capital, Inc. to acquire J.F. Cook Co., Inc. Benjamin serves as president and is the majority owner of the company. He, along with the entire J.F. Cook team, is determined to continue the high quality standards in their products and services as established by John Cook in 1947; bringing them through the 21st century and beyond.
