History of Bukacek Construction, Inc.

Bukacek Construction, Inc. is a second-generation company with an excellent reputation of providing competitive, quality construction services in southeastern Wisconsin. Our company started as a sole proprietorship in 1963 by James E. Bukacek and was incorporated in 1965. Since that time, our revenues have grown to $30 million annually while our staff has expanded to over 130 executive, administrative and skilled craftpersons.

In 1981, Nick Bukacek, (James’ eldest son) completed his civil engineering degree and joined the company. He worked his way through the ranks to senior project manager and eventually to executive vice president. In 1996, Nick was named president of Bukacek Construction, Inc. and his father, James, became chairman of the board. Tragically, Jim died in March of that year. However, a good succession and transition plan was already in place.

After years of strategic planning, Bukacek Construction, Inc. developed an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) in 2001. Nick and the employees felt this was the best model to assure the future success of the company. Statistics show that ESOP companies perform better than average because of the direct reward and benefit to each individual employee. Under the ESOP, day-to-day operation continues to be under the direction of Nick, who serves as president and chairman of the board, and the executive team of Gregg Thompson and Jim Cairns.

The firm’s project history is diverse, including commercial, industrial, educational, institutional, cultural and multi-family residential projects. New construction, historic preservation and complex renovation projects typically range from $1 to $15 million.

Well known clients include: Ruud Lighting, Danfoss Fluid Power, Packaging Corporation of America, Johnson Worldwide Associates, The Prairie School, Carthage College, The Racine Art Museum, Wispark Corp., Educator’s Credit Union, Pugh Marina, Alloc Flooring, Sam & Gene’s Grotto, and many others.
