For more than 25 years, Adoption Resources of Wisconsin has been supporting adoption and foster care in Wisconsin by providing information and referral at every step of the process, by recruiting safe and permanent homes for children waiting in foster care, and by offering training, education and support for adoptive and foster families and the professionals who serve them.

In 2008, Adoption Resources of Wisconsin celebrated 25 years of Creating Families, Changing Lives. In that time, we have facilitated more than 1,500 adoptions and served more than 20,000 families. We are very proud of our rich history of responding to the needs of Wisconsin's children and families.

In 1982 a group of parents concerned about children growing up in foster care incorporated as the Coalition for Children in Families that later became Adoption Resources of Wisconsin. Over the next 25 years, Adoption Resources of Wisconsin emerged as a leader in supporting healthy children and families in Wisconsin.

Since first receiving funding in 1984, ARW has grown steadily from one staff member working in her basement with a $25,000 budget to an organization that manages a budget over $2.5 million and facilitated the placement of more than 1,500 children from foster care in adoptive homes. Through our service to Wisconsin children and families, ARW has demonstrated its ability to respond to the needs of families with effective, efficient services and programs and has built our reputation on programmatic and financial integrity.

Mission:

Adoption Resources of Wisconsin is a nonprofit organization that operates from the belief that all children, regardless of their needs, have the right to a permanent family. Since 1982, our mission has been to find permanence for every child in Wisconsin and to support, nurture and encourage healthy families. To carry out this mission, Adoption Resources operates an extensive clearinghouse of adoption information and support. We also work directly with agencies and families to help secure homes for children.

Vision:

Adoption Resources of Wisconsin BELIEVES that every child deserves permanence and stability; that adoption is a lifelong journey; and that adoptive and foster families deserve the support, nurturing and encouragement they need to be strong healthy families.

* We EXIST to provide exemplary services before, during and after placement to birthparents, children waiting for adoptive homes or those aging out of foster care, adoptive and foster families, their children and the professionals who serve them. Those services include recruitment, placement support, education, training and advocacy from a quarter century of tradition and strong achievements.

* We SUPPORT foster and adoptive families with programs to embrace adoption and foster care more fully at all stages. We monitor statewide and national trends in adoption, foster and other non-parental care. We create and implement new services in response to emerging needs.

* We RESPOND to our constituents with timely, factual, objective information that enables them to make informed decisions.

* We are DEDICATED to the delivery of the highest quality services, using a collaborative team approach that respects the dignity of each individual, family and organization.

* We ADVOCATE that to represent children’s voices in legislative, rule-making, policy-making and political arenas and that to support and fund families adequately to be successful.

* We STRIVE to bring those voices to discussions throughout Wisconsin and the country on effective and accessible programs and services.

* We SUCCEED by providing premier services, successful outcomes, financial integrity, personal and organizational growth for greater community impact and well being. Adoption Resources of Wisconsin’s goal is continuous quality and growth of capacity to support children and families.

Who We Are:

ARW facilitates adoption and foster care for families throughout Wisconsin by answering their questions and connecting them to the resources they need; we recruit permanent homes for the kids who are waiting in foster care; and we support adoptive families and the professionals who work with them through training, education and support. We call these three core services the Answer Place, the Home Court, and the Support Highway.

We work in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, who has given us long term support. Our wonderful corporate partners, foundations and donors help us to bring an even wider range of services and connections to individuals and families who are interested in exploring the world of adoption and foster care.
